This afternoon, cadets went for a ride on the Seneca Chief boat from Tonawanda to Amherst. We spent two hours on the replica of the first boat to cruise the canal almost 200 years ago. Today, we had assistance from the tug Churchill for propulsion. In 1825, the boat was pulled by mules along a towpath. It was a little cold, but the Sun kept everyone warm! A special thanks to MSG Jaskowiak and Mr. LiPuma for shuttling us back and forth on the bus.

But WAIT... There's more... Maritime cadets participated in a Memorial Day Parade in the City of Lockport. A group effort between community groups including the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the Navy-Marine Club, The American Legion and the Elks Club. There hasn’t been a Memorial Day Parade in Lockport since 2019, prior to the onset of the Covid pandemic.

Maritime Cadets in Lockport.
Five Cadets from WNY Maritime got up early on a Sunday morning of Memorial Day weekend and performed in the City of Lackawanna Memorial Day Ceremony.   The event is sponsored by the local Marine Corps League, three American Legion Posts, and a local VFW Post.  We had to show the USMC flag in honor of our hosts.  The Cadets did an amazing job.

Yesterday, Cadets from WNY Maritime led the Lackawanna St Patrick’s Day Parade after a ceremony in the Our Lady of Victory Basilica. It is jokingly named the “World’s Shortest St Patrick’s Day Parade” with about 100 steps west on Ridge Road from in front of the Basilica to the front of the Lackawanna City Hall. The Lackawanna Mayor and members of the City Council were present and also a representative from the County Executive Office was there. The Cadets did an amazing job!
